What is Ambulance Cover?

Ambulance Cover is a type of insurance that covers the cost of being treated by paramedics and transported in an ambulance.

In some states and territories, you can take it out with a health insurer or subscribe to your local ambulance service. This applies to:

• NT
• SA
• VIC
• WA.

If you subscribe to an ambulance service in these locations and have Hospital Cover, you should check whether your health insurer will pay or reimburse you for the cost of your subscription.

In other states, if you want Ambulance Cover, you have to take it out with a health insurer. This applies to:

• ACT
• NSW.

In some cases, it is included if you take out Hospital or Extras Cover. Check your policy to see whether you are covered for Ambulance Cover.

You do not need to take out Ambulance Cover if you live in:

• QLD 
• TAS.

Ambulance services are free for Queensland and Tasmanian residents.
