The Age-based Discount is calculated at 2% for each year you are under 30 and hold Hospital Cover up to a maximum of 10% for people aged 18-25.
Age when you take out Hospital Cover | Discount |
18-25 | 10% |

The Age-based Discount lasts until you are 41 when it phases out at 2% each year.
Age when Age-based Discount reduces | Discount (if purchased by age 25) |
41 | 8% |
42 | 6% |
43 | 4% |
44 | 2% |
45 | 0% |
To keep the Age-based Discount, you must maintain your Hospital Cover every year without any breaks.
Here are some examples of how the Age-based Discount works in practice for singles:
A single under 25
Cy was 23 when he purchased Hospital Cover and received the maximum Age-based Discount of 10%. He will receive a 10% discount until he turns 41 if he maintains his Hospital Cover without any breaks.
When Cy turns 41, his discount will reduce by 2%. His Age-based Discount will now be 8%.
Cy’s Age-based Discount will reduce by 2% each year until he turns 45.
A single over 25
Myf was 28 when she purchased Hospital Cover and received a 4% Age-based Discount. She will receive a 4% discount until she turns 41 if she maintains her Hospital Cover without any breaks.
When Myf turns 41, her discount will reduce by 2%.
When Myf turns 42, her discount will reduce by a further 2% and her insurer will stop offering her the Age-based Discount.
If you are a member of a couple or family, the Age-based Discount is calculated as an average between the two adults in your couple or family:
A couple where one person is under 25 and one person is over 25 but under 30
Felix and Shawn are a couple. If Felix has a 10% discount and Shawn has a 6% discount, their Age-based Discount on their Hospital Cover will be 8%.
A couple where one person is under 30 and one person is over 30
Jacob and Olivia are a couple. If Jacob has an 8% discount and Olivia does not receive the discount because she is over 30, their Age-based Discount on their Hospital Cover will be 4%.
