Reviewed and updated 3 April 2024

About the National Immunisation Program (NIP)

The National Immunisation Program (NIP) provides free vaccines to Australians for a range of diseases.

The idea is to help reduce diseases that can be prevented by vaccination.

You can receive free vaccinations if you have a Medicare Card.

The NIP offers free vaccines to:

  • infants and children
  • adolescents
  • pregnant women
  • adults and seniors
  • First Nations people
  • people with medical conditions that put them at greater risk of diseases.

What is the National Immunisation Program (NIP) Schedule?

The NIP is a series of immunisations given at specific times throughout your life.

You receive them from birth to adulthood.

All vaccines listed on the NIP Schedule are free.
