To compare health insurance prices you must start by comparing every health insurer and every policy available in Australia, including restricted insurers. You can compare premiums for a new policy and premiums relative to your existing policy.
To compare health insurance premiums on a new policy, you must understand what level of cover is included and excluded. To find out policy details and the level of cover, check the Private Health Information Statement (PHIS), which includes a summary of:
– Number of adults, category of dependants covered and the state you live in
– Hospital Cover details, including the policy tier (Basic, Bronze, Silver, Gold), Clinical Categories covered, not covered, or restricted, as well as other important details including the excess, co-payments, waiting periods and whether or not Gap Cover is included for medical bills
– Extras Cover details, treatments included and not included, waiting periods, benefit limits, example of maximum benefits and other features
– Ambulance Cover details, including whether you are covered for emergency only and/or non-emergency, as well as call-out fees and other features.
If you already have health insurance you can compare your existing policy with other policies and premiums. To find out the policy details and government-approved premium for your existing policy, check the Private Health Information Statement (PHIS).
