You are eligible for Medicare in Australia and receive a Medicare Card if you live in Australia and you are:
- an Australian citizen
- a New Zealand citizen who is living in Australia
- an Australian permanent resident
- applying for permanent residency
- a temporary resident covered by a ministerial order.
Australia has Reciprocal Health Care Agreements with a number of countries. This means you may also be able to register for Medicare if you are visiting from:
- Belgium
- Finland
- Italy
- Malta
- The Netherlands
- New Zealand
- Norway
- Republic of Ireland
- Slovenia
- Sweden
- United Kingdom.
