How do I change to a different private health insurer?

Transferring to a different health insurer is easy.

Take these 4 steps:

Step 1:

Step 2:

Once you have chosen your new insurer and policy, get a detailed quote. 

Make sure your new insurer factors in whether you:

Contact your new insurer and ask to start your new cover. Your new insurer can usually cancel your old cover for you as part of the join process. Remember to check that your direct debit with your old health insurer has been cancelled.

Make sure you ask for your cover to start only when the old cover is cancelled to avoid a gap in your cover.

Step 4:

Check your bank statement to see whether your:

  • new cover has started
  • old cover has been cancelled
  • there is no overlap.
