St Lukes Health is a private health insurer that operates as an open health fund.
St Lukes Health was formed in 1952 by a group of Launceston businessmen who believed Tasmanians needed a health fund to help them with the cost of hospital and medical treatment.
Over the years, St Lukes Health has grown through mergers with other not-for profit health insurers.
In the 1970s and 1980s, it took over the health funds of processing and manufacturing companies, Kelsall & Kemp, EZ Company and Coats Patons. St Lukes Health took over the Queenstown Medical Union in 1997.
Today, the insurer has 57,000 members across Australia.
