How do ambulances services work in WA?

If you live in WA, you have to pay for being treated by paramedics and transported by ambulance.

You can the current fees and changes for ambulance services in Western Australia on the St John WA Ambulance website.

You do not have to pay for the service if you hold a:

  • Pensioner Concession Card
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold or White Card.

Should I take out Ambulance Cover if I live in WA?

If you live in WA and do not fall into one of the categories above, you may want to take out Ambulance Cover. In many cases, it is included in Hospital Cover or Extras Cover. Check with your insurer to find out whether your policy includes ambulance services.

If you live in Perth, you can take out Ambulance Cover with a health insurer.

If you live in a rural or remote area in WA, you can take out  St John Country Ambulance Cover. This cover is not available for Perth residents.
