What is a Blood Glucose Monitor?

If you have Diabetes, a Blood Glucose Monitor is a device you can use to check the concentration of glucose (sugar) in your blood.

To check your blood glucose level:

Step 1:

Prick your finger.

Step 2:

Put the blood onto a test strip connected to the Blood Glucose Monitor.

Step 3:

Note your Blood Glucose Monitor reading.

You can manage diabetes by checking your blood glucose levels regularly. This shows you:

  • how physical activity, food, stress, travel and illness influence your blood glucose levels
  • when you need help from your doctor or diabetes health professional to adjust your medication or insulin.

Readings from your Blood Glucose Monitor are often stored online so you can share results with your doctor or diabetes health professional.
