You will be exempt from paying the Lifetime Health Cover Loading on your Hospital Cover if you:
- were born on or before 1 July 1934.
- are under the age of 31.
- took out Hospital Cover on or before 1 July 2000 and have maintained it since that date.
- are a new migrant to Australia and you take out Hospital Cover within a year of receiving your Medicare eligibility.
- are an Australian citizen or permanent resident returning to Australia who was overseas on 1 July following your 31st birthday and take out Hospital Cover within a year of returning to Australia.
- are an Australian citizen or permanent resident returning to Australia who was over 31 and overseas on 1 July 2000 and take out Hospital Cover within a year of returning to Australia.
- hold a Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card (you are considered to have Hospital Cover).
- were a member of the Australian Defence Force (you are considered to have had Hospital Cover during that time) who was discharged after 1 July following your 31st birthday and take out Hospital Cover within 1,094 days.
- had health services provided by the Australian Antarctic Division (you are considered to have had Hospital Cover during that time) and left after 1 July following your 31st birthday and take out Hospital Cover within 1,094 days.
- are a resident of Norfolk Island who took out Hospital Cover before 1 July 2017.
